A Short Guide To Mini Dirt Bikes

October 15, 2017 0 Comments

Since the late 1960’s motorbikes have been riding trails and setting difficult tracks on fire. As the sport became more and more popular, there has been a parallel development in the technology behind motor bikes. As the newer, meaner dirt bikes became sleek and techno-efficient, the mini dirt bike which was also born in the late 1960’s also underwent amazing changes.

Mini dirt bikes, also known as mini motos or pit bikes, are responsible for introducing children to the sport of dirt road biking. They are at the core of the sport of riding trails and are miniature versions of off-road motorcycles built for adults.

They may have been designed for Junior but their performance is comparable with bigger bikes. Although the typical mini dirt bike has the seat at 500mm-600mm above the ground, the mini bike is popular with adults too. Adult riders started to focus on mini dirt bikes when manufacturers started perfecting the mini dirt bike for superb performance. The lightweight frame and performance make this bike reach up to 65 mph or a little more, a speed that is just right for mini racers.

When they were first made, they were small and were powered by a four-stroke motor. Today, these scaled down versions are powered by 2 stroke or 4 stroke carburetors. Therefore, mini dirt bikes have a number of nifty features.

Most mini bikes are equipped with semi or fully automatic transmissions although some still have the old four speed manual transmission. The automatic transmission system speeds up the learning process for children. The brake system too is advanced with hydraulic disc systems placed at the front and rear. Young riders who are not yet fully trained for the ride can take advantage of removable speed governors too. Thus, the suspension, shock absorbers, brake and other features make this a safe bike for young children.

Mini dirt bikes are immensely popular with the younger generation, both children as well as teens. Teaching your child to master the dirt bike is a great way of introducing them to this adrenalin-pumping activity that develops coordination, balance and self-confidence. The popularity of the mini bike can be judged by the very fact that there are various competitions for young riders between the ages of 4 and 15 years.

Mini dirt bikes may be the smaller version of a full fledged adult bike, but do not expect them to be a whole lot cheaper since the technology used is comparable to adult bikes. Some of the biggest manufacturers include Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki.
